A Harare woman sustained serious head injuries after she was allegedly assaulted by a man following a dispute over money, a court has heard.
Tristan Mudenda appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo charged with assault. He was not asked to plead.
The State alleges that earlier this month Mudenda met the complainant, Belinda Kajawo, at Archipelago Bar in the Harare central business district, where the two agreed on a paid sexual encounter for a fee of US$6.
During the encounter, a condom reportedly burst, prompting Kajawo to demand additional payment to cover the cost of medication. Mudenda allegedly promised to pay the extra amount later but only paid the initial US$6.
Prosecutors told the court that on Sunday the two met again at the corner of First Street and Nelson Mandela Avenue, where Kajawo demanded payment of the outstanding balance.
An argument ensued, and Mudenda is alleged to have assaulted Kajawo by slapping her and pushing her into a window, resulting in serious head injuries.
The matter was remanded for further proceedings.
