Zimbabwe have strengthened their preparations for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 with the appointment of legendary West Indies fast bowler Courtney Walsh to their support staff.

Walsh, who has extensive experience playing in subcontinental conditions, has already begun working with the squad ahead of the global tournament, scheduled from 7 February to 8 March.

Zimbabwe are drawn in Group B alongside Australia, Ireland, Oman, and Sri Lanka. The team is making a return to the tournament after missing the 2024 edition, having failed to qualify via the Africa Qualifier in 2023. This time, Zimbabwe secured their spot through the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2025, alongside Namibia.

Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director Givemore Makoni said Walsh's inclusion was aimed at strengthening the team's technical resources, particularly in fast bowling.

"Courtney Walsh brings unparalleled experience and insight at the highest level of international cricket, particularly in fast bowling," Makoni said.

"As we prepare for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, it was important for us to bring in someone who understands what it takes to succeed on the global stage. Courtney's knowledge, professionalism, and ability to mentor players will be invaluable as we sharpen our bowling resources for the challenges ahead."

Zimbabwe will open their World Cup campaign against Oman at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo on 9 February, before facing Australia at the R. Premadasa Stadium on 13 February.
