The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has issued a stern warning to companies and individuals against posting details of cash movements on WhatsApp groups or other social media platforms, following a robbery at a service station in Macheke.

Police said the incident involved the theft of USD 12,002, a Toyota Aqua vehicle (registration AFP 4750), and four cell phones. Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the service station managers had shared information online about cash collected from service stations in Murambinda, Nyazura, and Macheke while traveling to Harare for banking.

The vehicle was later recovered abandoned at the 74-kilometre peg along the Harare-Mutare Road near Marondera.

Authorities emphasized that posting such sensitive information publicly or in unsecured groups exposes individuals and businesses to criminal activity. The ZRP urged all commercial operators to adopt stricter internal controls and confidentiality measures when transporting cash, warning that negligence could have serious consequences.

"This incident serves as a reminder that sharing operational financial details online can be extremely dangerous," a police spokesperson said. "We call on all business operators to exercise caution and ensure secure handling of cash to prevent such robberies."
