Zanu PF ignores Maselo Pabeata

The ruling Zanu PF party has been accused of sidelining prominent music producer Tapiwa “Maselo Pabeata” Jera, despite his long‑standing contribution to party‑aligned music and campaign jingles.
Maselo, who has worked in the music industry for more than a decade, has produced songs for several musicians who openly support the party. These include Diana Samukange, Andy Muridzo, Chief Hwenje, Honourable Tawaz, Gushungo, Baba Troy, Baba Harare and Suluman Chimbetu, among others.
Many of these artists have been invited to perform at Zanu PF rallies and have reportedly received remuneration for their appearances. Some have even been gifted vehicles by businessman Sir Wicknell Chivayo.
However, music fans have questioned why Maselo — whose productions dominate playlists at Zanu PF events — is being overlooked, while producers who have not created any party songs, such as Tadex and Levels (Ghost Magician), are being invited to rallies in his place.
“Maselo is a renowned producer who produced a lot of music that is being played at Zanu PF rallies. Why is he being left out, yet some producers are being called and getting remuneration?” asked music fan John Garwe.
Another fan, Sarah Gumigora, said the party should recognise those who have contributed consistently. “It is not a secret that Maselo did a lot of commendable work for the party through jingles and songs that support the ruling party,” she said.
Maselo declined to comment on the matter. Efforts to contact Zanu PF political commissar Munyaradzi Machacha were unsuccessful.
