A 27-year-old man from Gokwe has been sentenced to an effective four years in prison after a jealous confrontation over an alleged love affair escalated into a violent knife attack, leaving another man injured.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said Khulekani Kangazane, of Magama Village under Chief Chireya in Gokwe North, was convicted of assault by the Gokwe Magistrates' Court.

According to court records, the incident occurred on January 1, 2026, at around 7pm at Sandura Business Centre, where Kangazane confronted a 24-year-old man, accusing him of having an affair with his wife.

The confrontation quickly turned violent when Kangazane produced an okapi knife and stabbed the complainant twice on the back and once on the left middle finger.

The matter was reported to the police, leading to Kangazane's arrest and subsequent prosecution.

The court sentenced him to five years' imprisonment, with one year suspended on condition of good behaviour, leaving him to serve an effective four-year custodial sentence.

In a statement, the NPAZ warned against acts of violence, stressing that the justice system would continue to impose deterrent sentences on offenders who resort to the use of weapons and put lives at risk.

"Violence has no place in society," the authority said, urging members of the public to resolve disputes through lawful and peaceful means.
