One month's salary for Senong?

Highlanders Football Club may be forced to pay former coach Thabo Senong one month's salary following the termination of his contract, which was reportedly subject to the approval of his work permit.

A source close to the matter said any payment to Senong would depend on the outcome of his work permit application, which remains pending.

"The club may pay Thabo Senong one month's salary, but that will depend on whether his work permit is approved, which is still pending," said the source.

Senong was appointed head coach on a two-year contract after signing with Bosso late last year. However, before he could fully assume his duties, the club restructured its technical team, resulting in a change to the original arrangement.

As part of the restructuring, Benjani Mwaruwari, who had initially been earmarked for the technical director role, was appointed head coach. Senong was subsequently offered the position of assistant coach, an arrangement that ultimately failed to materialise after the parties could not reach an agreement.

Highlanders chief executive officer Mnkandla confirmed that negotiations with Senong were ongoing, although he declined to disclose specific details.

"A settlement is being negotiated with Coach Thabo, who, unfortunately, could not take up his duties at the club," said Mnkandla. "Further role explorations also took place, although an agreement could not be reached in that regard. We hope this process will bring finality to this chapter and keep the door open for future collaboration."

He added that the club would not comment further on the details of the discussions or any agreements reached, including the circumstances surrounding the matter.

The developments mark an unusual chapter in Highlanders' technical restructuring, with the club seeking to stabilise its coaching setup ahead of the new season.
