Ngonidzashe Mudekunye, the Member of Parliament for Buhera South, appeared in Chimanimani Magistrates Court on Tuesday facing a charge of public violence.

Magistrate Regis Mawarire granted Mudekunye bail of US$100.

According to the state, the incident occurred on January 18 at Birchenough Bridge. Mudekunye allegedly arrived at the weighbridge driving his vehicle and ordered a female guard, Prettymore Kasiya, to allow a truck behind him to pass without the required weighbridge documents.

Kasiya refused, prompting Mudekunye to allegedly assault her with open hands, leaving her writhing in pain and bleeding. She subsequently filed a police report.

Mudekunye was arrested by Mutare Police and detained in leg irons.

The case has been adjourned and will continue on February 24.
