An Airlink flight travelling from Johannesburg to Bulawayo was forced to divert to Harare on Saturday morning after it was unable to safely land at its intended destination.

Flight 4Z112 departed Johannesburg at 07:15 on 14 February 2026 and was scheduled to arrive in Bulawayo at 08:30. However, the aircraft could not land due to the unserviceability of the Non-Directional Beacon (NDB), one of the key ground-based navigation aids at Bulawayo Airport.

The situation was further complicated by poor weather conditions. The cloud base was reportedly below the prescribed minima required for the airport’s Instrument Landing System (ILS) approach, making it impossible to execute a safe landing.

As a precaution, the flight diverted to Harare.

After conditions improved in Bulawayo, flight 4Z112 departed Harare at 10:40 and landed safely in Bulawayo at 11:22.

The return leg, flight 4Z113, left Bulawayo at 11:51 and arrived in Johannesburg at 13:07 without any reported issues.

The incident underscores how critical fully operational navigation systems and suitable weather conditions are to maintaining aviation safety.
