Umguza man jailed 30 years for sexual violation of neighbour’s children

A 38‑year‑old Umguza man, Bukhosi Hleza, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison by the Tredgold Regional Magistrates Court after being convicted on multiple counts of sexually violating two girls aged 10 and 12.


The court heard that Hleza, who lived near the victims, abused his position of trust and used threats of violence to repeatedly target the children between February and October 2025.

Evidence presented in court showed a consistent pattern of predatory behaviour. He intercepted the girls on their way home from school and lured them into his house under the pretence of seeking help with chores. Once inside, he locked the doors and intimidated them with weapons to ensure compliance. In one instance, he forced one child to leave while keeping the other inside.

Medical examination reports were submitted as part of the evidence.

The court said the sentence was intended to send a strong message that the justice system will not tolerate crimes against children. The magistrate noted that by abusing trust and instilling fear, the offender caused severe and lasting trauma to the victims.
