No favourites: Police officer fined in road crackdown

A police constable based in Mbare found herself on the wrong side of the law on Monday after she was fined for reckless driving during an ongoing crackdown on rogue motorists.

Constable Masuka was penalised along Simon Mazorodze Road after she reportedly drove out of the marked traffic lanes and created an illegal third lane in a bid to beat congestion. Unbeknown to her, fellow officers were stationed further down the road conducting traffic enforcement operations.

Sources said that when she was flagged down, the officer initially appeared to assume that her colleagues would overlook the violation. However, in a show of equal enforcement, she was issued with a fine like any other motorist.

The incident comes amid intensified efforts by law enforcement authorities to restore order on the country's roads, particularly targeting reckless driving and illegal lane creation, which have become common during peak traffic hours.
