Mvurwi police have arrested a 32-year-old woman, Thandiwe Kangara, in connection with the alleged strangulation and burial of her newborn baby girl.

The incident occurred on March 4, 2026, at Chihwe Village 2 Farm, according to Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Paul Nyathi. Police investigations revealed that Kangara reportedly gave birth alone and then strangled the infant before placing the body in a shallow grave approximately 10 metres from her homestead.

"The ZRP confirms the arrest of Thandiwe Kangara (32) in connection with a case of infanticide," Commissioner Nyathi said. "The matter came to light after a juvenile who had returned from school noticed that the suspect's pregnancy was no longer visible and alerted a relative, leading to further inquiries."

The case was reported to Vivelkia Police Post on March 5, 2026, which prompted Kangara's arrest. The infant's body was exhumed and taken to Guruve Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Authorities are continuing investigations into the tragic case.
