Man jailed 15 years for raping 14‑year‑old neighbour

A 38‑year‑old Bindura man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after he raped his 14‑year‑old neighbour in a bushy area, a Bindura court has heard.
Kudakwashe Mhuriro Jongwe was convicted and jailed by Bindura magistrate Shaila Nazombe.
Prosecutor Edward Katsvairo told the court that on 14 March, the complainant was walking to the shops when Jongwe followed her and began accusing her of spreading rumours that he had previously raped someone.
The girl kept quiet, but Jongwe became increasingly aggressive as he trailed her.
When they reached a bushy area, Jongwe overpowered the minor, pushed her to the ground and threatened to stab her with a broken bottle if she resisted. He then raped her and warned her that he would kill her if she told anyone.
The following day, the complainant’s mother noticed that her daughter was struggling to walk. After questioning her, the girl narrated the ordeal.
The mother immediately took her to the police station to file a report, leading to Jongwe’s arrest.
