A tense scene unfolded at the intersection of 5th Avenue and Robert Mugabe Way when a vendor climbed a tree and threatened to end his life, drawing a large crowd and halting business in the area.

Witnesses said hundreds of people gathered as emergency services responded. The man, visibly distressed, reportedly shouted that he wanted to die, while a relative believed to be his father pleaded with him from below to come down safely.

Rescue teams acted quickly, using a ladder from a fire engine to reach him. They managed to bring him down just moments before he could jump, an intervention that was met with relief and applause from onlookers.

He was immediately taken away for medical care and is said to be receiving attention.

Incidents like this can be overwhelming to witness, but they also highlight how important it is to respond quickly and support people who may be in distress. If someone is struggling, reaching out to trusted people or local support services can make a real difference.
