Mario forgives Teenage Hadebe

Warriors coach Mario Marinica says Teenage Hadebe remains an important part of the national team despite his recent suspension for breaching camp protocol in Botswana.

Hadebe, who plays in the United States, was dropped from the Warriors' Mukuru Four Nations Cup final against Zambia in Francistown after reportedly consuming alcohol while in camp.

The defender has since apologised to the team, coaching staff and the nation, taking full responsibility for the incident.

Marinica said the matter has now been resolved following a candid discussion with the player.

"I think the Teenage Hadebe issue is already water under the bridge," he said.

"Immediately after realising that he had wronged the team and the country, Hadebe came straight to the team and apologised. He said he was ready to take full responsibility for his error."

Hadebe later rejoined the squad to celebrate their 1-0 victory over Chipolopolo and was seen embracing Nqobile Magwizi as he received his gold medal.

He had earlier asked team captain Marvelous Nakamba to convey his apology to football authorities.

Marinica praised Hadebe's professionalism and maturity, comparing his response to that of Nakamba, who previously took responsibility for a costly mistake during a match against South Africa at the Africa Cup of Nations.

"That's the hallmark of a professional. No one asked him to apologise but he found it in his heart to do so. That's what Hadebe has just done," Marinica said.

The coach also expressed satisfaction with the team's defensive improvements after winning the tournament without conceding a goal.

"We have been trying to work out a proper formula to minimise damage at the back. It looks like we have found it now but the work continues," he said, noting that the team's 3-5-2 formation is showing promising results.
