Highlanders' winless run continues

Highlanders FC recorded their fifth consecutive draw after playing out a goalless stalemate against FC Platinum in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Barbourfields Stadium on Friday.

The tightly contested encounter saw both sides struggle to find a breakthrough, with Highlanders' continued lack of cutting edge in attack proving costly once again.

Bosso dominated the first half with purposeful attacking play but lacked precision in the final third, allowing FC Platinum to remain organised and head into the break with the scoreline unchanged.

The visitors improved after halftime, with the introduction of McKinnon Mushore and Oscar Bhebhe adding energy and fluidity to their transitions. However, Highlanders goalkeeper Aron Ngwenya rose to the occasion with a series of important interventions.

Ngwenya produced a crucial late save to deny FC Platinum, ensuring the hosts salvaged a point.

Kudakwashe Mahachi also impressed in an unfamiliar left-back role, but Highlanders' struggles in front of goal remain evident. The team has now scored just three goals while conceding the same number so far this season.

Head coach Benjani Mwaruwari remained upbeat despite the result.

"We played a good side. FC Platinum are playing good football. It is unfortunate that we did not get the goals. We need to work on the final third," he said.

FC Platinum coach Joel Luphahla acknowledged the challenge of playing at Barbourfields but welcomed the point.

"Barbourfields is always difficult. A point away from home is a good result, though we are under pressure to get wins," he said.

The result leaves Highlanders on five points, while FC Platinum move to six after securing their third consecutive draw.
