President Emmerson Mnangagwa has restructured a key government ministry, splitting the former Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Development into two separate portfolios.

In a statement issued by Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Rushwaya, the reorganisation creates the Ministry of Lands and Rural Development and the Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development.

As part of the changes, Vangelis Haritatos has been appointed Minister of Lands and Rural Development. Haritatos previously served as deputy minister in the combined ministry.

Meanwhile, Anxious Masuka will continue to lead the agriculture-related portfolio, now redesignated as the Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development.

The appointments and reassignments take immediate effect and are made in terms of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

The restructuring is expected to streamline focus areas within the sector, separating land administration and rural development functions from agricultural production and water resource management.

The move comes as government seeks to improve efficiency and coordination in land management, food production and rural development programmes—key pillars in Zimbabwe's economic and development agenda.
