Togara Fambi, president of the National Progressive Democrats, has been transferred to the ZRP Masvingo Headquarters where he is expected to appear before a military court, following his arrest in Gwanda on Sunday.
Sources familiar with the matter say Fambi's case relates to alleged conduct dating back to May last year, when he is accused of sharing details of his political ambitions while still serving as a police officer.
At the time of the alleged offence, Fambi had reportedly not yet formally resigned from the police service, with his resignation only taking effect in August.
Authorities have not yet publicly confirmed the specific charges, and further details are expected as investigations continue and court proceedings commence.
The case is expected to draw political attention given Fambi's role as an opposition party leader and the intersection of his former service in law enforcement with his current political activities.
