Sam Levy's Village gets major upgrade

Sam Levy's Village has undergone extensive renovations, introducing modern movie theatres, new retail outlets and upgraded infrastructure as it strengthens its position as one of Zimbabwe's leading shopping and lifestyle destinations.

Located in Borrowdale, the open-air centre has refreshed its look and feel, aligning with international retail standards while preserving its distinctive character built over nearly four decades.

Still owned and operated by the Levy family, the Village remains a reflection of the vision of its founder, Sam Levy, whose legacy continues to shape the development's identity around quality, accessibility and customer experience.

Senior management said the upgrades were part of a broader effort to modernise the facility and meet evolving consumer expectations.

"Shopping at Sam Levy's Village offers a diverse and upscale retail experience, with a mix of local and international brands… all within its picturesque, open-air setting," the management said in a statement.

The transformation has already sparked renewed activity, with increased foot traffic and a noticeable return of energy across the complex. Shoppers interviewed on site praised the improvements, citing enhanced aesthetics, expanded retail options and improved security.

One visitor, Elina Moore, welcomed the upgrades, highlighting the modernisation of cinemas and restaurants. Another shopper, Peter Shumba, commended the installation of advanced CCTV systems and the visible presence of security personnel, noting that safety remains a key attraction.

The Village now offers a broad mix of amenities, including boutiques, restaurants, entertainment facilities, gyms and family-friendly spaces, positioning it as a comprehensive lifestyle hub.

Staff members also expressed pride in the redevelopment, saying the continued investment reflects the Levy family's commitment to preserving and evolving the centre's legacy.

Further upgrades are already underway, including improved signage, resurfaced parking areas and the addition of new tenants. These developments are expected to enhance the overall experience and attract a wider customer base.

Beyond its commercial success, the Village retains a personal touch, with plaques bearing the names of the founder's family members embedded throughout the property—an enduring symbol of the values that underpin the development.
