A Harare-based general dealer has appeared in court facing fraud charges after allegedly duping a client of over US$8,000 in a failed vehicle import deal.

Energy Kufandirori (43) appeared before Ruth Moyo at the Harare Magistrates' Court, where he was granted bail of US$100.

Prosecutor Takudzwa Jambawu told the court that on October 22, 2025, Kufandirori allegedly received US$8,112 in cash from the complainant, Ellah Fenyen'enye, for the importation of a used Nissan Caravan NV350 from Japan.

The court heard that Kufandirori signed an affidavit acknowledging receipt of the funds and undertook to facilitate the importation, advising that the vehicle would arrive in Tanzania in early January 2026.

However, when the expected delivery date passed, the complainant followed up, and Kufandirori allegedly became evasive. He is said to have later communicated via WhatsApp citing delays, but the vehicle was never delivered.

The total value prejudiced is US$8,112, and no funds have been recovered.
