A Bindura sex worker was rescued by police after she was raped in a maize field.
Police officers on patrol heard her screams and rushed to the scene, where they found the suspect half‑dressed and apprehended him.
The matter came to light at the Bindura Magistrates’ Court, where Tawanda Murambiwa (36) appeared facing rape charges.
The State alleged that on 17 April, the 23‑year‑old complainant was walking home from a drinking spree in Manhenga, Bindura, at around 10pm when she met the accused. Murambiwa allegedly grabbed her from behind, broke an empty bottle and threatened to stab her.
He then force‑marched her into a maize field, where he forcibly removed her tracksuit bottoms and raped her.
Police officers on patrol heard the complainant screaming for help and rushed to the scene, arresting Murambiwa, who was half‑naked.
Edward Katsvairo prosecuted.
