Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has arrived in Russia to attend a major digital economy conference, as Zimbabwe intensifies efforts to accelerate its national digitisation and broader economic transformation agenda.

The Vice President is participating in the Digital Industry of Industrial Russia (CIPR), one of the country's leading annual platforms focused on digital economy development, industrial automation, and technology-driven growth.

The conference brings together global industry leaders, policymakers, and technology experts to exchange ideas on data-driven development, international tech cooperation, and advanced industrial software systems.

Zimbabwe has increasingly positioned digital transformation as a key pillar of its economic modernisation strategy, with government officials emphasising the role of technology in improving service delivery, industrial productivity, and governance efficiency.

During his engagements, Chiwenga has previously expressed appreciation for Russia's long-standing political support to Zimbabwe, including its backing on international platforms during periods of Western-led sanctions pressure.

He has also credited Russia and China for their 2008 United Nations Security Council veto against proposed sanctions on Zimbabwe, as well as for their historical support during Zimbabwe's liberation struggle.

The visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral cooperation between Harare and Moscow in areas including digital infrastructure, industrial innovation, and economic collaboration, as Zimbabwe continues to pursue its Vision 2030 development goals.
