Axe‑wielding man rapes sister

A 26‑year‑old Bulawayo man has appeared in court after he allegedly broke into his sister's bedroom, threatened her with an axe and raped her.
The matter came before the Bulawayo Regional Court, where the suspect, whose name is being withheld to protect the victim, appeared before magistrate Shingirai Mutiro. He was remanded in custody to 1 June.
Prosecutor Rufaro Ndirayire told the court that on 19 May, the suspect told the complainant, who is his cousin sister, that he wanted to have sex with her. She refused.
At around 9pm, the suspect allegedly went to the complainant's bedroom and demanded entry. The complainant, who was sleeping with her two minor children, refused to open the locked door.
The suspect then picked up an axe, broke the bedroom window and forced his way inside. Once in the room, he allegedly threatened to axe the complainant before ordering her to undress. He then raped her.
A police report was filed, leading to his arrest.
