A 24‑year‑old drug dealer from Zamuchiya village in Chipinge has been jailed after he was found in possession of cannabis.
Edson Sithole pleaded guilty before Chipinge magistrate Nixon Mangoti, who sentenced him to three years imprisonment. One year was suspended on condition of good behaviour, leaving him to serve an effective two‑year jail term.
The court heard that on 24 May, police intercepted a truck, registration number AGL 7930, at the 315‑kilometre peg along the Ngundu–Tanganda highway. The truck, driven by Itai Mukudu and heading to Mutare, had one passenger on board.
Police noticed a wrapped plastic bag containing cannabis. Mukudu told officers the parcel belonged to Sithole. Sithole later admitted ownership of the cannabis and was arrested.
The cannabis weighed 2,800 grammes and was produced in court as an exhibit.
