Woman douses hubby’s girlfriend with petrol, sets her alight

A Shamva‑based woman is lucky to be alive after she was doused with petrol and set alight by her suspected boyfriend’s wife.


Enita Kaukonde (27) sustained burns across her body after Betty Kasamba allegedly attacked her.

Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe confirmed the incident.

“I can confirm an attempted murder case that occurred on 5 June at Government Farm, Shamva,” Mundembe said.

It is alleged that Kasamba travelled from Mining Centre compound to a neighbouring government farm to confront Kaukonde, whom she accused of having an extra‑marital affair with her husband, Nelson Kavira.

Kavira was at the farm with his sister when his wife arrived carrying a bottle of petrol and a burning wooden stick. She allegedly poured the petrol on Kaukonde and set her alight.

Flames engulfed the victim, prompting Kavira and his sister to undress her in an attempt to prevent further burns.

Kaukonde was rushed to hospital, where she was treated and discharged. Kasamba was later arrested.

Police urged members of the public to resolve disputes peacefully.

“People should avoid violence because they will end up being arrested. They should solve problems amicably,” Mundembe said.
