Police in Mwenezi are hunting for a 32-year-old man who allegedly stabbed his friend during a dispute over childhood memories at Matibi Business Centre on Sunday.
Masvingo Provincial Police spokesperson Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident and said investigations were underway to locate the suspect, who remains at large.
"We urge members of the public to preserve peace and resolve disputes amicably. Issues of this nature should never escalate to the extent of people attempting to take each other's lives," said Insp Dhewa.
According to police, the incident occurred on June 8 when Mandlaenkosi Chikwenhure (27) and Aron Ndoro (32), both from Mafirenyika Village under Chief Mawarire in Mwenezi District, were drinking beer at a bar at Matibi Business Centre.
The two friends allegedly began arguing about events from their childhood, specifically over who used to dominate the other during their younger years.
What started as a verbal disagreement reportedly escalated into a physical altercation inside the bar.
Police said Ndoro allegedly wrestled with Chikwenhure before dragging him outside the premises, where he produced an Okapi knife and stabbed him once in the back.
Following the attack, the suspect allegedly fled from the scene and has not yet been apprehended.
The matter was reported to police, and Chikwenhure was rushed to Matibi Hospital for treatment.
Authorities said the victim is in a stable condition and continues to receive medical care.
Police have appealed to members of the public with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspect to report to their nearest police station.
The incident has prompted renewed calls from law enforcement for people to settle disputes peacefully and avoid resorting to violence, particularly in situations involving alcohol consumption.
