Facebook users across the world reported widespread access problems on Friday, 12 June 2026, with disruptions also affecting Instagram and Messenger services.

The outage appeared to begin around 16:00, when users attempting to access Facebook found that while page layouts and logos would load, no content was visible. Similar issues were reported on Instagram, where feeds failed to refresh or display posts.

Outage-tracking website Downdetector.co.za registered a sharp spike in complaints relating to Meta-owned platforms. However, users attempting to view outage reports on the site were also met with error messages, including a "404 - Page Not Found" notice, suggesting additional technical difficulties.

Frustrated users from countries including South Africa, India, Thailand, Bangladesh and Spain took to X to report the disruption. Many initially believed their accounts had been suspended before realising the issue was affecting multiple regions.

Some users shared humorous reactions, while others noted that certain business tools, including Meta's Ads Manager, appeared partially functional despite the broader outage.

Meta later acknowledged the disruption, saying engineering teams were working to resolve issues affecting ad creation, editing and reporting. The company also confirmed "high disruptions" in ad delivery systems and said it was recovering from an earlier outage affecting its advertising infrastructure.

"We are aware that some advertisers may be having trouble creating or editing their ads in Ads Manager," Meta said, adding that teams were actively working to restore full functionality.

The incident comes amid increasing reliance on Meta platforms for communication, marketing and content distribution, with even brief outages causing significant global disruption and user concern.
