Dog feasts on newly born baby

A 22‑year‑old woman from Gonono Village in Mbire has been arrested after giving birth in the bush and allegedly abandoning the newborn, which was later eaten by a dog.
The woman, identified as Soleen Vhinyu, has since been arrested on a charge of infanticide.
Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe confirmed the incident.
Allegations are that on Wednesday, Vhinyu gave birth in the bush and left the baby there. The following day, a neighbour reportedly saw his dog carrying the baby’s leg as it dragged the remains home to feast on.
He alerted other villagers, and a police report was made, leading to Vhinyu’s arrest.
Police urged members of the public to avoid unwanted pregnancies and to seek help when facing difficult circumstances, warning that abandoning infants is a serious criminal offence under Zimbabwe’s infanticide laws.
