A 25‑year‑old Glendale man has been jailed for 30 years after being convicted on three counts of raping a 15‑year‑old girl.
Lowvatti Kaneyana of Rujeko suburb in Glendale was sentenced by a Bindura regional magistrate after a full trial.
Prosecutor Edward Katsvairo told the court that on 5 May, the convict met the victim at the shops where she had been sent by her grandmother. Kaneyana allegedly ordered the girl to accompany him to his home, but she refused.
He then grabbed her by the hand and forced her to his room, where he raped her. The court heard that he repeated the abuse over two days before finally releasing her.
A police report was filed, leading to Kaneyana’s arrest.
Police urged communities to report all cases of child sexual abuse promptly, warning that offenders face lengthy jail terms under Zimbabwe’s child protection laws.
