The Zimbabwe Republic Police has arrested a woman in connection with the murder of her co-wife in Mudzi, while also launching a manhunt for four suspects linked to a fatal stabbing in Chiweshe.
Police confirmed the arrest of Elizaberth Ponji, who is being held in connection with the death of her 18-year-old co-wife, Loveness Zinhu, at Rwamba Business Centre in Mudzi on July 1.
According to police, Ponji was arrested on July 2 after allegedly setting alight a shop and adjoining bedroom where Zinhu and her husband, 30-year-old Peter Mudzengerere, were sleeping.
Investigators allege that before starting the fire, the suspect poured an unknown substance on the floor of the building.
Mudzengerere managed to escape from the burning structure but later lost consciousness, while Zinhu died in the incident.
In a separate case, police in Chiweshe have arrested Talent Chidamba (29), Maxwell Makuvatsine (21) and Nibert Nhau, also known as "Longers", in connection with charges of murder and attempted murder following a violent attack at Rosa Business Centre on July 2 at about 2:35am.
The three suspects are alleged to have acted together with four accomplices who remain at large.
Police said the group allegedly attacked two men following a misunderstanding at a nightclub during a beer-drinking spree.
During the assault, 22-year-old Shepherd Achangu was allegedly stabbed with a knife and later died after being admitted to hospital. A second victim sustained serious head injuries and is receiving medical treatment.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has launched a manhunt for the remaining suspects, identified as Matthew Matemai, Welly Tatenda Matemai, Nathan Tapiwa Matemai and Tafadzwa Peter.
Police have appealed to members of the public with information that could lead to the arrest of the four suspects to report to their nearest police station.
