A Zimbabwe National Army officer, Gift Nduna, and his alleged accomplice Philemon Sithole have been arrested after they reportedly stole ZESA cables at a farm in Bindura.

The pair appeared before the Bindura Magistrates’ Court and were remanded in custody to 28 July.

Sithole, who broke his leg while committing the offence, is currently admitted at a local hospital under police guard.

According to the State, the two suspects allegedly hatched a plan on 11 July to steal electricity cables at Manyika Farm in Bindura. Alert security guards at the farm discovered the offence and pursued the suspects.

Sithole, who was injured during the attempted escape, was apprehended first, while Nduna was arrested minutes later. A third suspect managed to flee and is still at large.

The stolen property was recovered.

The case adds to ongoing concerns over infrastructure vandalism and electricity cable theft, issues frequently highlighted across platforms such as Zimbabwe infrastructure protection forums.
