PSL postpones Highlanders match after executives' deaths

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has postponed Highlanders FC's Castle Lager Premier Soccer League fixture against Chicken Inn following the tragic deaths of three senior Bosso officials in a road traffic accident.
The Bulawayo derby had been scheduled for Sunday but has been deferred to allow Highlanders time to mourn the loss of club chairman Retired Colonel Kenneth Mhlophe, vice-chairman Sifiso Siziba and treasurer Nkani Khoza.
The three administrators died in a road accident about 60 kilometres outside Bulawayo along the Gweru-Bulawayo Highway while returning from Kariba, where Highlanders had played ZPC Kariba in a league match earlier in the week.
In a statement, the PSL extended its condolences to Highlanders FC and the families of the deceased.
"The Premier Soccer League advises all stakeholders that the Castle Lager PSL fixture between Highlanders FC and Chicken Inn FC scheduled for Sunday 26 July 2026 has been postponed following the passing of PSL Vice Chairman, Rtd. Col. Kenneth Mhlophe, Highlanders FC Vice Chairman, Sifiso Siziba and Treasurer, Nkani Khoza.
"We call upon all clubs and football stakeholders to officially observe a moment of silence in respect and honour of their legacy before the commencement of all Matchday 25 fixtures," the PSL said.
The league also directed all clubs participating in Matchday 25 to wear black armbands as a mark of respect.
"All clubs are requested to participate in this tribute by wearing black armbands during the weekend matches," the statement added.
Mhlophe was one of Zimbabwe's most respected football administrators and served in several leadership roles at Highlanders over many years. He was first elected club chairman in 2018 and served until 2021 before returning to the position in February 2024 for a second term.
His death, together with those of Siziba and Khoza, has sent shockwaves through Zimbabwean football, prompting an outpouring of tributes from clubs, supporters, football administrators and Government officials.
The PSL is expected to announce a new date for the postponed Highlanders-Chicken Inn fixture in due course.
