FC Platinum part ways with Luphahla, appoint Senong

FC Platinum have parted ways with head coach Joel Luphahla and his entire technical team by mutual consent following a disappointing run of results in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

The club announced the development in a statement on Tuesday, confirming that South African coach Thabo Senong has been appointed as Luphahla's successor, subject to the completion of work permit formalities.

The decision comes just days after FC Platinum suffered a 2-0 defeat away to MWOS, a result that appeared to seal Luphahla's fate.

The former champions have struggled to mount a serious title challenge this season and currently sit 11th in the 18-team league standings with 31 points from 25 matches, having recorded six wins, 13 draws and six defeats.

They trail league leaders Scottland by 21 points, with the pacesetters also holding a game in hand.

In its statement, FC Platinum expressed gratitude to Luphahla and his technical staff for their service to the club.

"FC Platinum would like to thank Joel Luphahla and his technical team for their dedication, hard work and valuable contributions to the club. We wish them every success in their future endeavours," the club said.

Pending the completion of Senong's work permit, assistant coaches Moses Mwafulira and Alexio Sigion will oversee training sessions and match preparations on an interim basis.

Senong arrives in Zimbabwe after previously being linked with the Highlanders coaching job earlier this year but missed out on the appointment.

FC Platinum also welcomed the South African tactician to the club and thanked supporters, sponsors and stakeholders for their continued support as the team looks to improve its fortunes during the remainder of the season.
