NRZ train to Victoria Falls to terminate at Dete

The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has advised the travelling public that the Bulawayo–Victoria Falls passenger train will this weekend terminate at Dete following a blockage of the railway line at Mbarira.

The blockage was caused by a level-crossing accident between Dete and Victoria Falls in which a locomotive was reportedly struck by a haulage truck.

The locomotive fell onto its side and is currently blocking the track, disrupting rail services between Dete and Victoria Falls.

NRZ said efforts were underway to clear the line and restore normal operations.

Passengers travelling to Victoria Falls who are affected by the disruption will be refunded, according to the railway operator.

"The NRZ will refund passengers proceeding to Victoria Falls affected by this incident," the organisation said.

NRZ said the accident was caused by the haulage truck driver allegedly attempting to beat the approaching train at the level crossing.

The railway operator urged motorists to exercise extreme caution at level crossings and warned against attempting to race trains.

"NRZ urges motorists not to race trains at level crossings," the organisation said.

NRZ apologised to passengers for the inconvenience caused by the incident and said further updates would be provided as efforts to clear the track continue.
