Maswanhise scores, misses penalty

Zimbabwean forward Tawanda Maswanhise scored once but missed a penalty as Motherwell were held to a thrilling 3-3 draw by St Mirren in Paisley.

Maswanhise gave Motherwell an early lead before also having a first-half penalty saved by St Mirren goalkeeper Jacob Chapman.

The visitors appeared to be in complete control after Regan Charles-Cook doubled their advantage with a spectacular strike from around 25 yards in the 24th minute.

However, St Mirren mounted a remarkable comeback before half-time, scoring three times through Paul Nsio, Declan John and Samuel Ramos to turn the match on its head and take a 3-2 lead into the closing stages.

Motherwell refused to give up and found a late equaliser through Kanga, who had only joined the club two days earlier. The substitute unleashed a powerful volley into the top of the net to rescue a point for the visitors.

Motherwell made three changes to the side that lost to Freiburg in the Conference League, with Tom Sparrow, Martin Moorman and Charles-Cook coming into the starting XI.

They needed less than two minutes to take the lead.

Alex Lowry played Maswanhise through on goal, and the Zimbabwean striker rounded Chapman before calmly finishing to put Motherwell ahead.

Motherwell were then presented with an opportunity to extend their advantage when they were awarded a penalty following an Alex Gogic handball.

Maswanhise stepped up but saw his effort brilliantly saved by Chapman, who kept St Mirren in the contest.

The hosts would eventually turn the game around, but Kanga's late intervention ensured Motherwell left Paisley with a share of the spoils.

The pulsating encounter ended 3-3, with Maswanhise's goal adding another highlight to his growing contribution for Motherwell.
