A 30-year-old Bulawayo man has appeared before the Plumtree Magistrates' Court facing a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Mathembe Ncube was arrested on August 25, 2026, at about 9.30pm at a police roadblock situated approximately 98km from Bulawayo along the Plumtree Road.

Ncube, who resides in Bulawayo and is employed by Namibian company Wittran Investments, was allegedly driving a Namibian-registered Scania heavy-duty truck with a gross vehicle mass of 27 tonnes.

According to court papers, the truck was towing a container trailer and was travelling towards Plumtree Border Post when Ncube was stopped at the roadblock.

The State alleges that Ncube was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or both, to an extent that affected his ability to properly control the vehicle and posed a danger to other road users.

He was subjected to a breathalyser test, which recorded 164 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, above the prescribed limit of 150mg per 100ml.

Ncube was remanded out of custody to September 14, 2026, by Magistrate Benjamin Makono.

He was represented by Bulawayo-based lawyer Joshua Nembaware of T Hara and Partners, while Selestine Madziwa represented the State.
