Nguluvhe calls for unity, preservation of Zimbabwe's cultural heritage

Matabeleland South Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Albert Nguluvhe has called for greater unity among Zimbabweans, the preservation of the country's diverse cultural heritage and the use of local resources to drive sustainable development.

Nguluvhe made the call yesterday when he officiated as Guest of Honour at the annual King Mzilikazi Commemoration held at Mhlahlandlela in Matobo District under the theme, "Siqoqa Isizwe Ngamasiko" - "Build the Nation Through Culture."

The commemorations brought together traditional leaders, members of the Khumalo Royal Family, Government officials, cultural organisations, artists, elders, youths and local communities to celebrate the life and legacy of King Mzilikazi Khumalo kaMashobane.

Nguluvhe described King Mzilikazi as a nation-builder and unifier whose legacy demonstrated the importance of bringing people together despite differences in language, culture and background.

He said Zimbabwe's cultural diversity should be viewed as a source of strength rather than division.

"Our cultures may be diverse, but that should never divide us. We must remain united and work together as one nation because our strength lies in our unity," Nguluvhe said.

The minister stressed the importance of preserving Zimbabwe's indigenous languages, including isiNdebele, Tshivenda, Sesotho and isiKalanga, as well as traditional values such as ubuntu and ukuhlonipha.

He challenged traditional leaders, parents, communities and cultural organisations to ensure that young people remained connected to their cultural roots while embracing education, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Nguluvhe said cultural preservation should not be viewed as being in conflict with modern development, but should instead form part of efforts to build confident communities capable of contributing to Zimbabwe's economic growth.

He also encouraged communities to make greater use of local resources and skills as part of efforts to promote sustainable development.

The annual commemorations have become an important platform for celebrating the historical contribution of King Mzilikazi while promoting cultural identity, unity and the transmission of traditions to younger generations.
