Muduva, wife's burial plans remain unresolved

THE families of Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) Commissioner Dr Martin Muduva and his wife, Lyliosa Chirara, remain divided over burial arrangements following the couple's deaths.
Muduva, 42, died on Wednesday at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals after reportedly succumbing to injuries allegedly sustained during the incident. His wife, Lyliosa, 43, allegedly ingested poison and died shortly afterwards.
As mourners gathered to pay their respects, relatives from the Muduva and Chirara families were still engaged in discussions over where and how the couple should be buried, with no agreement having been reached.
The disagreements have added to the grief surrounding a tragedy that has left both families and the wider community searching for answers.
Sources close to the families said discussions had been tense, with differences reportedly emerging over family traditions, logistics and representation in decision-making.
The families have since agreed to move the discussions from the family homestead to a neutral venue in an effort to find common ground.
"We are yet to agree on the burial arrangements of the two," said a relative close to both families.
Among those attending the wake were officials from the ZHRC and health workers from Ruwa Rehabilitation Centre, where Chirara had reportedly been transferred before her death.
Meanwhile, members of the couple's extended "sahwira" family have been encouraging mourners to undergo health checks for conditions including high blood pressure, diabetes and other non-communicable diseases.
While some welcomed the initiative as a gesture of care during a difficult period, others felt that the focus should remain on mourning the deceased and supporting the bereaved families.
For many gathered at the wake, the main concern remains understanding the circumstances surrounding the couple's deaths, with investigations expected to shed further light on the tragedy.
