Mnangagwa in-laws reapply for bail

Three people facing drug-related charges in Bulawayo have re-applied for bail at the Bulawayo Regional Court after being denied bail by a lower court last month.
Amina Jassinta Jessub Arab, 47, Dyonne Tanaka Tafirenyika, 28, and Noreen Jessub, 51, appeared before Bulawayo Regional Magistrate Sibonginkosi Mnkandla on Friday.
Their lawyer, Brezhnev Mathonsi, told the court that the latest bail application was being made under changed circumstances.
The bail hearing has been set for September 16, 2026.
Arab is the mother of Collin Mnangagwa's second wife, Kelsea Tafirenyika, while Tafirenyika and Jessub are her daughter and relative respectively.
The trio were arrested at a lodge in Bulawayo's Ilanda suburb following a police search of their rooms.
According to the State, police allegedly recovered two sachets of cocaine worth ZiG9,000 from Jessub's room. The drugs were allegedly concealed inside a shoe.
Two more sachets of cocaine were allegedly recovered from Arab's room, where they were reportedly concealed in a small bag.
Police allegedly found a sachet of crystal methamphetamine, another sachet of cocaine and US$53,055 in cash in Tafirenyika's room.
During their previous bail application, the prosecution opposed their release, arguing that the State had a strong case against the accused and that they posed a flight risk.
The State also questioned the source of the cash allegedly recovered from Tafirenyika's room, arguing that it could represent proceeds of crime because its origin had not been accounted for.
The three were denied bail when they initially applied before a lower court last month.
They will now return to the Regional Court on September 16 for their fresh bail application.
