Bulawayo water cuts continue

Bulawayo residents will continue to experience water supply interruptions into the weekend as the city works to rebuild reservoir levels following electrical faults that disrupted pumping.
Town Clerk Christopher Dube said faults experienced last week affected both the pumping of water to treatment works and the filling of reservoirs, resulting in low water levels across the city.
"The City of Bulawayo would like to advise residents and stakeholders that, further to the notice published on Tuesday, 8th September 2026 on water supply interruptions, the city continues to experience water supply challenges across all areas," Dube said.
According to Dube, electrical faults on the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) lines at Fernhill and Nyamandlovu disrupted the city's water supply system.
"The electrical faults experienced during the week on the ZETDC line at Fernhill and on the Nyamandlovu line affected both pumping to the water treatment works and reservoirs leading to low levels," he said.
Although ZETDC has since rectified the faults and pumping has resumed, Dube said the disruptions had affected the city's water-shedding programme.
"While the ZETDC has rectified the faults and pumping has resumed, these led to the disruption of the water shedding programme," he said.
The city is now working to replenish reservoirs that were depleted during the period of interrupted pumping, with water supplies gradually being restored.
"The City of Bulawayo is currently in the process of building up the water supply reservoirs and water supplies are slowly being restored," Dube said.
Dube had projected that the situation would improve by Monday, September 14, with reservoirs expected to have recovered sufficiently to allow the city to resume its normal water-shedding programme.
"It is anticipated that by Monday, 14th September 2026 all reservoirs would have gained sufficient levels to enable adherence to the water shedding programme," he said.
Residents have been urged to continue using water sparingly while the city works to restore supplies and return to the regular water-shedding schedule.
