Ruto mourns Chivayo as 'dear friend' after fatal helicopter crash

Ruto and Chivayo had developed a highly visible friendship, with the Zimbabwean businessman making several public appearances alongside the Kenyan leader. Their interactions included visits to State House and Ruto's private residence in Kilgoris.
In August, Ruto was filmed personally driving Chivayo to a helipad after a family event.
Chivayo, 43, was one of Zimbabwe's most prominent businessmen and was widely known for his energy and infrastructure interests, as well as his highly publicised philanthropic activities and relationships with prominent figures across the region.
The cause of the helicopter crash has not yet been established, with investigations expected to determine what led to the accident.
