Mr Ugly contender drinks ZED to death

Mr Ugly Harare's top contender, Charles Tizora, has died. Tizora was buried on Tuesday at Granville cemetery after imbibing an illicit brew known in the streets as Zed. The dangerous brew is said to contain over 60% alcohol content.
Tizora reportedly collapsed and died at the corner of Mbirimi and Daniel streets in Mbare after downing one too many. The late Tizora grabbed headlines after he challenged the reigning Mr Ugly Harare title holder, William Masvinu for the Mbare contest which however did not take off. He openly declared that he was to give Masvinu a run for his money.
Scores of people gathered at the Tizora residence at House No. 86 Zata in Mbare commemorating the life of Tizora who was described as a humorous man. He received a heroes' send off from his Mbare colleagues, with music and dance dominating the funeral proceedings. Nyau dancers (zvigure) were also part of the proceedings.
Pallbearers carried his coffin from his home to a shopping complex near Stodart Hall, in memory of the places he used to hang around.
Tizora's mother, Gogo Bonda, said despite her son being a drunkard, he was a respectful and peace loving man. She revealed that Tizora did not have any physical ailment but at times experienced bouts of mental illness.
"He was a mental patient. he could drink but was not violent and still respected me as his mother. On the day in question, he asked me for a dollar for him to drink and I gave him. He left but unfortunately that was his demise. He used to go out for drinks and could return home early but on this day he took time to return. Later on, a certain guy came here and advised us that he had passed on. We rushed to the scene and he indeed had died," she narrated.
Scores of reckless imbibers have fallen prey to abusing illicit brews and lately police have made a clampdown on vendors selling that illicit brandy.
