In a desperate bid to win the forthcoming presidential elections, Zanu-PF has welcomed members of the New Black Panther Party (NBPP), an American political organization visiting the country. NBPP has promised to assist Zanu-PF in mobilising the people.
NBPP was founded in Dallas, Texas in 1989. The party's slogan "FREEDOM OR DEATH" should be a cause for concern for the opposition.
Despite its name, the party is not an official successor to the Black Panther Party which aimed at empowering black people in America but violence over shadowed some of their achievements.
NBPP has pledged full support for President Mugabe and Zanu-PF in the forthcoming harmonised elections.
The organisation will campaign for the total removal of the West's illegal economic sanctions regime which they described as "wicked and diabolical weapons of mass destruction which are not hurting Government but the people".
Members of the movement are famed for assisting in the organisation of million men marches in the United States. The party works alongside the December 12 Movement, the Black Church and the Nation of Islam among other progressive black movements in the US and internationally.
The delegation met Zanu-PF spokesperson Rugare Gumbo at the Zanu-PF headquarters yesterday.
Party chairman Mr Malik Zulu Shabazz said he was in Zimbabwe to get Zanu-PF approval to organise on its behalf in the US and help shape public opinion in favour of the revolutionary party.
"We have come here to give solidarity to Mugabe and to Zanu-PF. Part of our solidarity mission is to learn about Zimbabwe and its politics so that we can do our solidarity more effectively," he said.
He said his organisation fully supports the Zanu-PF thrust on land and black empowerment.
"I am here to support my hero Robert Mugabe. My main mission is to support the man I have loved throughout my childhood," he said.
He said part of his mission was to "clear the lies by Western media on President Mugabe".
Mr Shabazz said his organisation would use its influence to have sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe removed.
"I will do all I can to help Zanu-PF. Zanu-PF must win this election. It must win the election for the cause of Pan-Africanism. We need you to win. We are here to help you to win," he said.
He said the MDC-T and its leader Morgan Tsvangirai were puppets of the West.
Mr Shabazz urged Zanu-PF to reach out to churches, professionals and the grassroots.
Gumbo explained to the delegation the history of the liberation struggle and life under colonial rule.
He said the MDC-T invited sanctions on Zimbabwe.
Gumbo said the West was not happy with the land reform programme which they also used to justify sanctions.
He said under the coalition Government, the MDC-T promised that if given the key portfolios of finance and industry it would help bring foreign funding but nothing has so far come to Zimbabwe.
He said Zanu-PF would win the next elections because of its focus on land, indigenisation, education and health.
Secretary for Women's Affairs Oppah Muchinguri also attended the meeting.
