ZANU-PF yesterday moved its election campaign a gear-up with Vice President Joice Mujuru addressing four rallies in Mount Darwin where she urged the electorate to vote resoundingly for Zanu-PF in the harmonised elections to be held on July 31.
VP Mujuru started her campaign trail at Nembire Primary School before proceeding to Chakoma Primary School where she was received by a jubilant crowd.
Addressing thousands of people at another rally held at Mudzengerere Secondary School, Dotito, Mount Darwin, VP Mujuru said Zimbabwe could not afford to have another inclusive Government. VP Mujuru said the inclusive Government formed by Zanu-PF and the two MDC formations had stagnated economic growth during the last four years due to bickering.
She said the only way the country could overcome this predicament was to vote resoundingly for Zanu PF.
In any case, VP Mujuru said the coalition had overstayed its legal life span.
"This Government was supposed to last for 18 months only," she said.
"But due to policy differences it extended to four years. Vamwe vange vave kutoita mutorododo hope dzenyope varimo muGovernment iyoyo.
"Now that we are going for elections we should go in large numbers and vote for Zanu-PF," VP Mujuru said.
The country would have defeated the illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe at the instigation of some western askaris pretending to be forces of democracy. She said the embargo was imposed as punishment for repossessing the land that was grabbed by the whites during the colonial era.
"Varungu ivavo vasati vatora minda iyoyo vakaitenga kuna sekuru vaani? (Abelungu bengakathathi umhlabathi bawuthenga kubani)
"It was agreed at the Lancaster House conference that Britain was going to pay the white farmers but nothing came until we decided to take our land.
"Minda iyi takaitenga neropa (umhlabathi sawuthenga ngegazi) and that is what has invited the illegal sanctions."
As a result of the illegal sanctions, VP Mujuru said Zimbabwe was facing numerous challenges that were affecting service delivery. She said Zanu PF had clear developmental policies as espoused in its manifesto that was launched by President Mugabe in Harare last Friday.
She said the manifesto addressed concerns of the youths regarding employment and how lives of rural folks should be transformed. VP Mujuru said Zanu-PF was ready for elections and the revolutionary party wanted them to be held before the expiry of the Seventh Parliament on June 29.
"It is not good to rule the country by decree. Our courts ruled that we should have elections by July 31 and our President has since complied with that ruling," said VP Mujuru.
She urged the people to maintain the peaceful environment prevailing in the country during and after the elections. She thanked the people in Mount Darwin for giving her another term unopposed to stand as the Zanu-PF National Assembly candidate for Mount Darwin West.
VP Mujuru said a huge turnout in the harmonised election would ensure that Zanu-PF got more Senatorial seats that would be divided among contesting parties using the proportional representation formula. She urged the youths to vote for Zanu PF as the part of the future.
She said the party was embracing them in all its structures. Zanu-PF Politburo member Alice Chimbudzi thanked the party's supporters for voting peacefully in the primary elections. She urged them to go and vote for all the party's candidates starting from the President to the councillors.
VP Mujuru also addressed another packed rally at Dotito Township.
