Operation Muchombi Ndiani (Who is the traitor and sell-out among us) launched.

HARARE - Zimbabwe's dreaded spy agency, the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) is reportedly rocked by a wave of purges on it's operatives suspected of doubling up for foreign intelligence organisations, chief among them the Mossad, Israel's intelligence arm, alongside America's Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) throwing President Robert Mugabe's new administration into a spying quandary, The Telescope News reported.

The silent purges have been codenamed: "Operation Muchombi Ndiani?", which is the native Shona language for: "Who is the traitor and sell-out among us?". An order to crackdown on former prime minister, Morgan Tsvangirai, according to high level government sources has also been made with the possibility of trumped up charges being revived again, or forcing the opposition leader into involuntary exile, as signs of political deterioration intensify, on the back of reports that military hardliners have secretly endorsed justice minister, Emmerson Mnangagwa as a "stand-by president".

Seasoned operatives are said to be looking into any "loopholes" they can find or pin as a "national security infringment" around a discreet meeting Tsvangirai held in May 2012 in Austria with General Wesley Clark, a former commander of the US Supreme Allied North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (Nato) forces in Europe. Tsvangirai's meeting with Clark had sent shivers running down the spine of Mugabe and his inner circle at the time, with fears for a possible Nato intervention in Zimbabwe had the 2013 presidential elections resulted in bloodshed and violence.

So serious are the backstage purges, that some agents have fled the country into neighbouring South Africa , with a significant number having managed to secure asylum in the United Kingdom and Canada recently intelligence sources said.

The fallout in the CIO is being zeroed, to Mugabe's succession race pitting Vice president, Joice Mujuru and her chief nemesis Mnangagwa, who is enjoying a new spring in his step, after launching a war on corruption that has largely exposed the rot in state enterprises led by Mujuru's allies. The vice president's foes have allegedly prepared a dossier, soiling her image as a manchurian candidate for British and American intelligence services, therefore not suitable to take over from Mugabe when he eventually vacates office anytime soon.

"There is a lot of mudslinging going on. One can see that there are people trying to use parallel intelligence structures outside the CIO to foment disaster in this country, as they round up against Amai (Joice Mujuru)," said an official close to the goings on at Munhumutapa building, which houses the President's office. "However they will fail dismally because the vice president is on her way to the top. The plan under this dubious Muchombi Ndiani thing, is to implicate all those accused of being double agents of the West, as Mujuru's agents."

Didymus Mutasa, who is minister of state for presidential affairs, was unreachable last night for an official comment. Mutasa has been linked to the Mujuru faction, and is believed to be harbouring ambitions of becoming Mujuru's deputy, if she manages to succeed Mugabe.

We can also reveal today, based on briefings from other Zanu PF sources, that Mugabe is furious about the divisions and foreign infiltrations in the key national security branch, amid serious concern by Harare that Western governments already have numerous moles that have been secretly fomenting destabilisation of the octogenarian leader's power, by supplying sensitive information such as cabinet discussions and security briefings to "their third party principals".

Israel is one of the biggest diamond dealers after China in the country's controversial Marange diamonds believed to be worth some US$800 billion. Tel Aviv has also in the past sold state of the art heavy anti-riot control equipment to Zimbabwe. The Jet Pulse Water Cannon system has been used to crush opposition demonstrations, and is also used by police as a show of force during electioneering.

It is widely suspected that the Mossad managed to infiltrate Mugabe's CIO sometime around the year 2000 through Ari Ben Menashe, an alleged Israeli agent presently residing in Canada where he works as a political consultant. Menashe was at the centre of an assassination plot conspiracy, which almost cost Tsvangirai his political career in 2003 after frivolous treason charges were preferred against him for wanting to allegedly "eliminate" Mugabe. Tsvangirai now claims Menashe set him up, and that he had been doing business with the CIO, while at the same time offering political consultancy to the MDC only to turn against them in favour of Mugabe.

To highlight safety scares even for top CIO bosses, four children belonging to, the late deputy director general of the agency, Menrad Muzariri are now staying in the safe havens of Britain where they have been granted asylum. The four siblings declined a few years ago State sponsored air tickets, to fly back home following the death of their father after he succumbed to a "short illness". Another top operative of the CIO Philip Machemedze is also staying in London, despite confessing to murder and the maiming of opposition MDC supporters.

"The reprisals are terrifying," said an intelligence officer operating at the CIO's Chaminuka building in Harare . "Many comrades including the late deputy director general are facing serious allegations of having been compromised by Western intelligence organisations therefore facing imminent expulsion and punishment from the agency."

The agent who prefers to be called Andrew, also made the startling revelation that Mugabe is seething with anger that the CIO failed to stop his former finance minister and Zanu PF politburo member, Simba Makoni from challenging him for the presidency in 2008, because some of them were on the payroll of Israel and Britain.
