Prophet Makandiwa brings city to a halt

Congregants at Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa's United Family International Church (UFIC) Sunday brought Harare to a standstill as they marched through the streets campaigning for their Judgement Night 2 event slated for this Saturday.
Clad in church t-shirts adorned with a picture of their leader Makandiwa and his wife Ruth, thousands of UFIC members flooded the streets of Harare in a show of popularity, hooting, singing and ululating, much to the marvel of on-lookers.
From toddlers at the back of their mothers, the aged and the working class driving top-of-the-range vehicles, UFIC members brought Sunday business to a halt as they took their Judgement Night 2 crusade to the street, inviting those who dared listen to partake of the word.
Makandiwa is set to hold his mega Easter convention this weekend where, according to church officials, miracles are bound to happen.
The rally, running under the theme: When power meets power, is likely to be the largest attended event with organisers expecting not less than 150 000 guests to pack the National Sports Stadium.
In the streets, Makandiwa followers sang and danced to various church songs and if the number of those who marched is anything to go by, then other competing Pentecostal churches could be in trouble this weekend.
Government has so far given its support to the event under its religious tourism endorsement and is advocating for a slash in hotel rates to foreign delegates attending the convention.
UFIC is also using its newly launched website and Facebook page to interact and disseminate information about what the church claims as the "biggest event of the year."
The multitudes later on conducted a clean-up exercise in the city centre.
Speaking about the event during one of his sermons, Makandiwa said: "The whole nation is going to know that Jesus reigns. It has never happened anywhere. God is going to be blessing His people. Just begin to pray from now, from today, from this night."
