A woman yesterday told the court that her abusive husband connived with his father to steal her undergarment and took it to a traditional healer as punishment for her alleged infidelity.
Anna Zvigare claimed that her husband Simon Newere forced her to take a herbal concoction believed to induce "runyoka" and told her that she would get stuck to any man with whom she had sex.
This was revealed at the Harare Civil Court where Zvigare was seeking a protection order against Newere.
"This man is in the habit of physically and verbally abusing me for no reason. He is always accusing me of having an extra-marital affair. I don't have any boyfriend.
"He burnt our marital bed last month saying it harboured evil spirits after accusing me of sleeping on it with my boyfriends," she said.
She said that same month he connived with his father and stole her undergarment and took it to a traditional healer in Gokwe. He said "runyoka" would be activated on her and forced her to take the traditional medicine.
"I only came to know that the concoction was for runyoka after he started telling me that he had fixed my private parts such that I was going to get stuck should I indulge in sexual intercourse," she said.
Newere refuted the allegations as fabrications saying their misunderstanding began after he instructed Zvigare to go with their children to the rural areas soon during the school holidays.
"She is lying because I don't verbally or physically abuse her as she is alleging. Neither did I accuse her of having an extra-marital affair with anyone.
"I burnt our marital bed because it was dirty and infested with lice not because it harboured evil spirits," he said.
He told the court that the last time they were in court, she attacked and assaulted him in the presence of police officers.
"We are having problems with my wife because she wants to be in charge. She is always watching television and does not cook food for me," he said.
Magistrate Ms Gamuchirai Siwardi granted the protection order in Zvigare's favour.
