A BULAWAYO man bashed his wife after she refused to show him a text message on her phone.
Masimba Mushara, 36, appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Willard Moyo charged with physical abuse.
Prosecuting Kingstone Mkanganwi said: "Mushara assaulted his wife in public when she refused with her phone. He was angered and also accused her of having extra marital affairs."
The court heard that on January 18 at around 3PM near Pumula South shopping centre, Sinanzekile Mushara was walking to the bus stop when she met her husband.
Her phone beeped and her husband demanded to see the text message she had received.
She refused with her phone and that angered Mushara who then assaulted her with fists and booted feet all over her body.
At around 10PM the same day, the court heard, Mushara went to his wife's family home to fetch her so that they could go back to their house in Nguboyenja.
On their way back, Mushara head-butted his wife three times on her mouth before striking her with a stone on the forehead.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
"I did not assault her and I am denying all the allegations," Mushara said.
Magistrate Moyo remanded him in custody for trial on July 9.
