HARARE RESIDENTS of Msasa Park in Harare have mobilized resource to fix their roads saying the local authority has failed.
Yesterday the residents said they have set a fund to rehabilitate roads in the middle density suburb which the local authority has abandoned.
"After realising council will not repair damaged roads, we as the residents of Msasa Park have come up with our own initiative to rehabilitate roads through mobilising our own financial resources, acquiring gravel and fixing the roads," residents said in a statement.
"The residents have watched in awe as council has failed to perform its duties, with our leader of the trust insisting that council has not performed its duties nor deliver services in the middle density surburb."
Residents charged that the roads were in a deplorable state hence they have grouped and mobilized money to amend the roads.
"We have come to a realisation that the moment that we wait for City Council to come and fix the roads, it would be too late as we are approaching the rain season and the potholes get wider and deeper in the rain season leaving the lives of residents at risk."
They said they had so far managed to fix roads including part of Homestead, Fennel, Flame Lily Drive, Penny Royal, Nyamudzura, Msasa Drive, Part of Kay Eddy and Mauya
"We are now in the process of mobilising gravel to cover remaining areas like, Nzou, Mukuvisi Ave, Kay Eddy\Bauhiniana and part of Homestead Road," said the residents.
"We are appealing to all Msasa Park residents to join the initiative and donate a minimum of $5 that would then be used to tar all the roads in the suburb."
