The Zimbabwe Unemployed People's Association (ZUPA) which represents the interests of millions of economically disadvantaged people is encouraged by the position of first lady on key issues such as corruption, poor leadership and openess. So far our political leaders have nurtured an attitude of incompetence, corruption while on the other hand they have obliterated democracy, accountability as the emblem of justice that hold many vital strata of meanings to all citizens.
They have excessively employed many weasel words to evade the daunting truth. By means of their scandalous, corrupt leadership, they have without doubt razed our national pride. Without the first lady an ominous future will befall the destiny of our disordered nation and many generations to follow. Others will view us as an abortive, uncivilized and a chaotic people. Courage and integrity in the first lady is what our country need right now. When will it be the time where we comprehend that we need such woman, such leaders.
We must cooperate and unify as one force to change and renew our country for ourselves and other generations.
It is more gratifying that a senior member of the governing party has for the first time publicly and clearly denounced corruption, incompetence and announced the need for leadership renewal in our great country. With this disclosure and condemnation, it is therefore important for Zimbabweans to unite and wish such a leader well. The national leadership has been so secretive in the handling of government business, issues of incompetence, corruption and poor leadership although it is public knowledge that such challenges exists. Zimbabweans should pray for the first lady so that she can continue and be more energised in keeping the pressure on.
Already, we are happy that political, civic, war veterans and church leaders have started sending goodwill messages to the first lady. This should not just be at a leadership level but should motivate all Zimbabweans to extend a hand of friendship, support and goodwill as we transition into a new political dispensation. The governing party should hold and facilitate more rallies for the first lady so that the ruling party could undergo a self-cleansing process that would see leaders getting positions on merit and not on patronage.
There must be order in the country to allow governance systems to play their rightful mandate in leading our country out of out of the woods, out of economic and political challenges. Even if political debate sometimes becomes so heated members of the governing party should and must reflect on what has kept them together for all these years without internal strife. As Zimbabweans we need peace and not physical confrontation.
Let's be civilised and continued with peaceful means of conflict resolution so that we can all continue enjoying our freedom. Let's put Zimbabwe first. We must recognise that this is not the case in some other fellow African countries whose post-Independence era had been characterised by civil wars and violent Government takeovers. As Zimbabwean, we have a lot to celebrate even if others refer to us as us docile. Therefore national leaders need to follow the supreme law of the land and avoid illegality in the governance systems simply because their liberated this country.
This is the reason why as Zimbabweans regardless of political affiliation should remain sober and collectively with the first lady handle any differences with respect and dignity we all deserve. This can only be done if all Zimboz agreed to bury their deep differences and extend messages of goodwill and love to the first lady as she takes serious political matters head on.
Through this process, our country would be able to get rid of the chaff that had currently infiltrated the government, other state organs and was causing confusion because of its divided loyalty and patriotism. It is our expectation that the leadership and the general public would respect and support the first lady's efforts to rebrand our country which has suffered a lot of internal and external strife.
Rebranding is needed because some national leaders do not want or have the capacity to carry the vision of transforming the economy of the country and lives of our citizens. They do not want to open industries, create jobs and eradicate poverty but just to work for themselves and their families. We need to keep the pressure on corrupt, incompetent, divisive leadership.
