'Mugabe step down' campaign launched in London

A GROUP of Zimbabweans based in Britain have mooted plans to march to the country's embassy in London in a bid to force President Mugabe to step down from his office for alleged abuse of power and destroying the country's economy.
The protest is a plot by journalist-cum activist Itai Dzamara who recently delivered at the State House and Parliament petition urging Mugabe to resign for failing to failing to deliver before launching 'peaceful' protest marches dubbed "Occupy Africa Unity Square."
"The backing for the demands we submitted to President Mugabe about the national crisis continues to grow and we are encouraged by that," unrestrained Dzamara said in a statement seen by Byo24 news today.
"More Zimbabweans keep coming up to back the mission, and even broaden its scope.
Tendai Karwi, a UK-based Zimbabwean, has come up with an online petition in line with the one we submitted to Mugabe on October 17, 2014.
Zimbabweans based in the UK already have plans to collect 1000 signatures for the petition, before planning a march in London towards handing in the petition at the Zimbabwean embassy there."
"We urge others to step up and come up with more initiatives that broaden the scope as well as spread the message. We are also moving on with plans to broaden and spread the mission to other parts of Zimbabwe," reads part of the statement.
Yesterday Dzamara and other activists were severely beaten by angry Zanu PF supporters after they tried to stage protests minutes after Mugabe had closed the official opening of the second session of the country's eighth parliament.
He was arrested following the attack and incarcerated for hours at Harare Central Police base.
Commenting on the assault Dzamara said: The trio of Tichaona Danho, Dirk Frey and (Itai) Dzamara, who were assaulted by Zanu PF mobs and then arrested by police yesterday, spent the afternoon today getting specialist medical and other vital assessment as well as attention."
"We are pleased to reveal that they are all in good, healthy conditions and fit to continue with the mission."
Dzamara has vowed to continue with his demonstrations until aging Mugabe responds to his infamous petition or resigns.
